Summary:
During the last six years the Washington State Pest Management Resource Service (WSPRS) has served as Washington's state information network contact to the Western IPM Center. Throughout this time period, funds from the WIPM Center have been used to design and strengthen our outreach (web page), support the collection and dissemination of pest management information, actively encourage stakeholder identification of critical issues in IPM, and allow state participation in regional collaborations. An interim report on specific activities accomplished during late 2006 and early 2007 is provided at the end of this proposal. As evidenced in this and prior reports, WSPRS staff is productive and highly networked with both Washington stakeholders and other state-based IPM programs.
The overall goal of this proposal is to maintain and enhance a successful state network in 2008 and 2009.
Objectives: This proposal requests funding for part of a staff position that will perform, or assist Dr. Daniels in performing, the following activities: 1. Serve as a resource for information about the importance of IPM (pesticides and other pest management tactics) in local production systems covered by the Washington State network. 2. Continue an existing information network that can respond within a short (1-day to 3-week) timeframe to information requests from USDA, EPA, and others on pesticide use, usage, and alternatives to FQPA impacted chemicals. 3. In collaboration with the Agriculture IPM Coordinator, and a diverse array of stakeholders, coordinate identification of critical pest management issues. 4. Maintain the WSPRS website (http://wsprs.wsu.edu), which was developed for the network, including monitoring and updating links to individuals working in research and extension pest management areas of Washington State. 5. Aid in identification of appropriate individuals within Washington State to address IPM tactics surveys, crop profiles, and Pest Management Strategic Plans (PMSPs). |
