Summary: Ticks and the pathogens they carry pose a serious threat to public health in the North Central region. Tick populations have rapidly expanded throughout the North Central and other regions in the US, increasing exposure and tick-borne disease incidence. The primary goal of the Public Tick IPM Working Group is to reduce tick-borne disease incidence by collaborating on IPM-related activities and efforts that ultimately reduce the risk of exposure to ticks and pathogens they carry. The Public Tick IPM Working Group provides a platform for nonfederal and federal participants involved in tick-borne disease efforts (Appendix 1) to exchange new research findings, technological developments and communicate ideas and supports the existing federal group by maintaining and publishing stakeholder priorities and undertaking projects that address one or more of those priorities. Our proposed goals complement the efforts of the Federal Tick-Borne Disease IPM Workgroup as we both work towards reducing tick-borne disease through effective IPM tools.

Objectives: 1. Facilitate regular, multi directional communication with the Federal Tick IPM Workgroup and diverse stakeholders to update, maintain, and communicate current specific stakeholder priorities for research, regulation, education and management, with a special focus on priorities that complement efforts of the Federal Tick IPM Workgroup, to be used by the Working Group, grant makers, grant seekers, regulators and others to identify and pursue stakeholder-identified needs in the management of tick-borne diseases.

2. Develop new tick resource materials through collaboration on projects to evaluate educational resources, resource impacts, behavioral change and movement of ticks and tick-borne disease incidence. Projects should address one or more top-ranked priorities. For the proposed "TickSmart WEb Portal", brainstorm future developments, review materials, submit ticks, provide feedback and further promote the project as appropriate.

3. Build partnerships and facilitate collaborative initiatives within the Working Group. Identify a minimum of one project to submit a funding proposal for in addition to ongoing Working Group projects. Proposed projects should address one or more top-ranked priorities.

4. Continue to coordinate monthly Public Tick IPM Working Group conference calls. Maintain the Working Group website that hosts general information, meeting minutes, priorities, resources, and project developments. Continue to manage Working Group listserv hosted by University of Rhode Island.
